Age and Agency

If someone sends in an event with an age preference and I list it for them, please don't make the leap to conclude that I am announcing an official change in the LDS Church's programmes

My purpose for this site was to create a space where my SA friends could publicise events and soirees for single members of the LDS church and their friends. You know, getting together for theatre trips, evening meals and the like. For example, there's a chap in the Midlands who organizes a "fun club" with the large number of widows and widowers in his ward. I wanted to support that sort of activity.

Over time it has also been useful to list official SA conventions and events, and I have been glad to help with this when asked, but this is not an official Church site; its justification is D&C 58:27

... Verily I say, men should be anxiously engaged in a good cause, and do many things of their own free will, and bring to pass much righteousness...

MangoMangoMango is not some evil organisation that hates you because you are single or of a certain age. It's a bloke who people email events to and he lists them on a web site during his lunch break. It's also the network of people who contribute.

I have been single three times. I have been too young for certain events and too old for others. I understand that this is frustrating sometimes. However, if someone organised an event that I couldn't go to, I'd wish them well and be glad someone is making an effort. I like my free agency, and I respect the agency of others. Such as a couple who know some SAs of their own age, get permission to use a chapel or someone's house and put on a do for them. Whether they do it for 30-45s or 75-85s or widows only, they are doing it of their "own free will" and kindness.

I have been asked by some to put up statements about church policy and respond to rumours. Last time I checked I was not a member of the Area Presidency and not in a position to make such statements! As far I am aware, there are two authorized LDS programmes in the UK; Young Single Adults for ages 18-30 and Single Adults for ages 30-300. Over 300 and you're on your own!
